A Simple Guide to Begin Your Meditation Journey

Finding the Stillness

Are you someone who says, "I don’t have time to meditate," or "I don’t even know how to meditate?"

If so, you’re not alone.

Many people struggle with the idea of meditation, thinking it requires hours of dedicated time or advanced techniques.

But what if I told you that meditation can start in the simplest of ways, even during your daily routines?

The Shower Meditation

Next time you’re in the shower, take a moment to pause. Close your eyes and feel the water cascading over your head. Notice the warmth as it washes over you, the way it flows down your shoulders, arms, and back. Just be in that moment. Feel the sensations—each droplet, the steam rising, the rhythm of the water. This is your first exercise in mindfulness, allowing yourself to be fully present in a simple yet profound way.

Step 1: Cultivating Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the cornerstone of meditation. It begins with being aware of the present moment. Here’s a simple exercise to try:

  1. Focus on Your Breath: Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your belly to expand. Exhale slowly through your mouth. Concentrate on the rhythm of your breath. If your mind wanders, gently guide your focus back to your breathing.

Step 2: Guided Visualisations

Once you feel comfortable with your breath, it’s time to explore guided visualisations. These are excellent for keeping the monkey mind busy while you relax.

  1. Listen to Guided Meditations: Find a quiet space and put on a guided meditation. Follow the narrator’s voice, allowing yourself to be transported to calming landscapes or serene settings. This practice helps to soothe your mind while you explore different imagery and feelings.

Step 3: Relaxing Music

After becoming familiar with guided visualisations, try listening to tranquil music.

  1. Set the Mood: Choose music without lyrics—something soft and calming. Let the sounds wash over you as you close your eyes and simply drift. Allow your thoughts to flow in and out like the gentle waves of the ocean.

Step 4: Embracing Silence

Finally, the ultimate step: sitting in silence.

  1. Sit with Yourself: Find a comfortable position, close your eyes, and simply be. Allow your mind to settle. If thoughts arise, acknowledge them without judgement and return to the stillness. This is your sacred space, a moment to connect with your own energy frequency.

By following these simple steps, you can gradually build your meditation practice in a way that feels natural and accessible. Remember, every little moment counts, and meditation is about progress, not perfection. Happy meditating!
